On November 6, 2013, the Napa County Planning Commission approved the Woolls Ranch Winery Use Permit Application. At the time of the hearing, the Planning Commission did not have a complete understanding of the amount of water which Woolls Ranch was using, in its existing vineyard, thereby making it difficult for the Planning Department to adequately evaluate the additional water usage and water sources for the proposed winery project and thereby advise the Planning Commission regarding the impact that the proposed winery would have on the existing water supply.

After the November 6, 2013 hearing, it was discovered that O’Shaughnessy Winery (Woolls Ranch) purchased 1,748,000 gallons of water from the City of Napa between July 10, 2013 and September 30, 2013, for a total of 82 days. This information was not provided to the Planning Department, while the application for the use permit was pending.

The Mount Veeder Stewardship Council is very concerned regarding the amount of water which the proposed Woolls Ranch Winery is planning on using at the site, and based upon the fact that Woolls Ranch was having to haul water during a portion of the summer of 2013, it does not appear that there is sufficient water at the site to support the existing vineyard, much less a winery, which is being proposed.

A list of significant documents relating to the Woolls Ranch Winery Use Permit Application are contained on this website HERE.

If you are concerned about the approval of this winery, please write letters to your supervisor.
